DATANIMAL23, is a feasibility study in the USA, explores Digitanimal’s expansion into the U.S. cow-calf livestock farming market. Its primary objective is to develop an intelligent livestock analytics platform that enhances farm productivity and sustainability while promoting animal welfare.
The platform aims to transform data from IoT devices and external sources into practical functionalities, improving animal feed and welfare while providing ranchers with peace of mind and reducing time and operating costs.
To achieve this, the project conducted a pilot study on a farm to understand technical needs and challenges, as well as to gain insights into the U.S. livestock ecosystem for designing a business development strategy.
/ Key project outcomes include
Analysis of the U.S. PLF market, identifying leading companies offering technological solutions for livestock management in grazing and confinement systems. The study confirmed industry interest in PLF for improving traceability, animal monitoring, disease detection, and carbon sequestration practices.
Evaluation of Digitanimal’s solutions on a typical Angus cattle operation in southern West Virginia, verifying the effectiveness of GPS collars under real U.S. production conditions.
3.
Identification of specific challenges, such as connectivity in remote areas, emphasizing the value of GPS-enabled IoT sensors.
4.
Recognition of system improvement areas, including:
- Providing clear device placement instructions
- Developing a tool for locating lost devices
- Implementing solar panels to eliminate battery changes
5.
Confirmation of significant interest in Datanimal’s grazing management and traceability features, potentially enhancing its market competitiveness.
6.
