Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
GENERAL
What is Digitanimal SAT?
Digitanimal SAT is a GPS device for livestock with built-in satellite connectivity that allows animals to be tracked and monitored even in areas where conventional mobile networks have no coverage.
What kind of animals is it designed for?
It is designed for extensive livestock farming and animals grazing over large areas; it can be used for cows, horses, sheep and goats.
What problem does digitanimal SAT solve?
It solves one of the main problems facing extensive livestock farming: knowing where the animals are when they are in areas without mobile or IoT coverage.
Do I need mobile coverage to use it?
No. It has been specifically developed to continue tracking animals in remote areas where terrestrial networks are limited or there is no coverage.
Do I need to install antennas or repeaters?
No. Digitanimal SAT works without the need for antennas, repeaters or additional infrastructure. All you need to do is attach the device to the animal.
What is the difference between Digitanimal SAT and Digitanimal ECO?
Digitanimal ECO is designed for farms with terrestrial coverage. Digitanimal SAT is designed for remote areas, mountains, ravines, mountain passes or areas where coverage is non-existent or insufficient.
If I already have cover, do I need a SAT?
Probably not. If your farm has good terrestrial coverage, ECO devices may be a more suitable option. SAT is specifically designed for farms with connectivity issues.
How can I see where my animals are?
Via the digitanimal platform, on your mobile or computer. You can check the animals’ location, movement history and activity.
How often do you send out positions?
It depends on the plan you have signed up for:
- Basic: 9 messages per day.
- Standard: 15 messages per day.
- Advanced: 30 messages per day.
- Premium: up to 48 messages a day.
Can I change the delivery frequency?
Yes. There are various operating modes to suit the needs of each farm.
What is its battery life?
The device features a high-efficiency solar panel and a high-capacity battery, minimising the need for maintenance.
Do I need to change the batteries?
Not on a regular basis. The solar system keeps the battery charged to provide the longest possible range.
How much does the device weigh?
The SAT device weighs approximately 750 grams. With the full collar attached, it weighs around 900 grams. For comparison, a complete EVO or ECO set weighs close to a kilogram.
Is it suitable for sheep and goats?
Yes. The device can be used on cattle, horses, sheep and goats.
Can I use several devices on the same farm?
Yes. In fact, many livestock farmers monitor a number of key animals: breeding males, lead animals, remote herds or groups located in different areas of the farm.
Can I combine SAT and ECO devices?
Yes. Many livestock farmers use ECO devices in areas with mobile coverage and reserve SATs for animals that frequent more remote or difficult-to-reach areas.
Can it be used to track down lost animals?
Yes. One of its main benefits is that it drastically reduces search times when animals are in large or hard-to-reach areas.
What happens if the animal strays into a very remote area?
As long as the device has a clear view of the sky, it will continue to send data via satellite connectivity.
Is there a minimum contract period?
The subscription can be renewed annually. There are renewal options for periods of less than 12 months, with a minimum of 6 months.
What does the subscription include?
Satellite connectivity, access to the Digitanimal platform, and associated tracking and monitoring services.
